Clear headlights of ice, snow and mud
If you drive in nasty weather, you may have trouble with headlights that get muddy or icy so they don't shine well. Use car wax to coat and polish them. It repels water and keeps them much cleaner for about six weeks.

Easy composting even in the winter
If you garden at all, never throw out water in which you've cooked vegetables, potatoes or pasta. It contains valuable nutrients, so pour it on your garden, even in the winter. Don't put salt in it, though.

Don't turn down a hand-me-down

Lost an earring? Use the one you have as a tie tack, hat decoration, or, if it's big enough, as a pendant on a necklace chain.

Make the most of soup bones
'Soup bones' that you find at the grocer any more don't have much food
value at all, but you can boil them and crack them to get the marrow, if
you can find them cheaply enough. Mix the marrow into the boiling
liquid and use this a base for soups. If you add barley or wheat to your
soup along with the marrow, it will taste like a meat stew.
