Keep a bowl or container in the kitchen sink to catch water that would otherwise go down the drain. This can be used to wash dishes, mop the floor, or for other cleaning. Besides all that, it will make you more aware of how much clean water goes down the drain - a good place to start saving.

Yes, you can save a lot of water once you get started with the idea. It's a shame how much reusable water goes down the drain.
I already use the water I catch from the faucet to water my potted plants, but I never thought about using leftover cooking water to do the same! I save potato and whole wheat pasta water for bread making, but nobody in my family cares for broccoli water bread. The plants on the other hand would love it!
