You can wash suede clothing

Did you know that you can wash suede clothing? While it's usually recommended that you have them dry cleaned, a gentle wash in your washer will do it. Just stop the machine before the spin cycle and squeeze as much water from it as you can. Lay it flat to dry, then brush to relax the nap. Washing by hand is even gentler if you don't wring it out when you're through. Again, squeeze the fabric, then put it to dry on a flat surface.

I would like to thank you for your post! Its really awesome, my suede leather jacket was full off fungus and looks really ugly, i was worried to wash with water but dry clean is very expensive, so tried to wash with shower gel and rinse with hair conditioner, and hang it in the bathroom! Now the jacket very clean and soft! Thank you so much!

Wow, so much wonderful information here. Have a chocolate brown suede jacket i need to clean. It has a pure wool lining, has anyone had experience of cleaning a suede jacket with woollen lining? If so, how did it come out after being in the clothes dryer? Am worried the wool may shrink? Advice much appreciated.

I ripped an old suede coat and then washed one of the pieces in hot water and gentle detergent. It worked nicely. I proceeded to put the rest of the pieces in the hot water and let them soak for a couple of hours. That seemed to be a mistake as the suede piece shrunk terribly. Is it possible to resize these shrunken pieces?

Please help? I ripped an old suede coat and proceeded to wash one of the pieces from the sleeves. I washed it by hand in warm water with gentle soap. It worked nicely. I then proceeded to wash the other pieces and decided to let them soak for a couple of hours. That seems to be my mistake because all the pieces shrunk terribly. Does anyone know how I could get these pieces to their original size?
